1 review for Elemental
While the animation in this movie is very good and well done, overall this movie just didn't do it for me. It felt a bit half baked. This lacks the strong emotional core that you expect from Pixar. It attempted that with the relationship between ember and Wade but they just didn't dig deep enough for anything to resonate. This is a story we've seen a million times, without anything else to add that makes it feel worthwhile. The world building is often clever and creative, but eventually becomes stale after the whole gimmick of naming things after variations of elements runs it's course. Also the analogy it's trying to make doesn't quite work because elements mixing and humans mixing are not the same thing. Water can put out water. Fire will kill plants etc. There are legitimate dangers from certain interactions between elements. These dangers don't exist with humans of different nationalities, cultures, etc from interacting. And it almost seems wrong to compare it to these element interactions and imply there are dangers in mixing that we can overcome, because that really isn't the issue in reality. Zootopia tackles these kinds of issues much better. This movie just didn't feel like it had much to offer. It's completely watchable, had some funny and entertaining aspects. But it's just bland and doesn't have much to offer as far as the story goes. 6/10
