The story of J. Robert Oppenheimer's role in the development of the atomic bomb during World War II.
This is Nolan's masterpiece. I had to sit on it a bit before I called it that. But the film is absolutely incredible in every single aspect. The performances, the score, the cinematography, the directing, the writing. It's just impeccably crafted. It's also really powerful. Really heavy stuff. But it's all explored in a very nuanced and compelling way. Very fascinating character study of Oppenheimer, who was a very complicated person. I do have to mention Robert Downey Jr., as well. His performance was outstanding. As of writing this, he's my pick for best supporting actor. Cillian Murphy would be my pick for best actor, as he was incredible as well. I can see this film getting lots of nominations and potentially wins and it deserves every single one of them. The last line of this film is one that will stick with me for awhile. I won't spoil it, but sums things up quite well. The Trinity test did look amazing in IMAX. Very well done. Amazing that it was accomplished with practical effects. This is probably Nolan's best work. Phenomenal 10/10.
