Man, this film was bleak. It was such a brutal watch. But it was incredibly well done. The performances here were great, especially David Johnson. But Cooper Hoffman was also really great. Very strong direction here from Francis Lawrence as well. I like the hunger games movies, but this is by far his best work. And JT Mollner's screenplay was fantastic. It's amazing how he was able to write a screenplay that involves people walking the whole time and make it so compelling. Of course, this is an adaptation so credit for that goes to Stephen King as well. The characters were written well too and I cared deeply about some of them. But I will say this was a hard watch after the events of this week. There is a message here about how we respond to violence. Do we choose to live by hate or live by love. That is such a poignant message after the events of a horrific political assassination, along with a school shooting on the same day. This was a really powerful movie. It was a hard watch, but a really good one. 9.5/10
