Angela Rosenberg, JSF Foundation: “The film shows people in a documentary setup who work behind the scenes on different aspects of film production such as producers, critics, or sponsors. They each describe their individual vision of an “ideal” film scene and, while they do so, seem to be suddenly surprised by random yet classic film effects, such as the fall of rain or snow, sudden gunfire, or explosions. As the protagonists develop their personal ideal scenario, they seem to be making the condition of production more transparent. However, the “ambush” action inserted into the scene then immediately subverts this impression. The juxtaposition of authentic surprise on the part of the individuals, which is confidently glossed over by most of the film professionals, and the artificiality of the staged images questions the authenticity of film both as an educational tool and as an illusion machine.”
