In 1908, eighth grader Alma Richards quits school to work as a ranch hand. A chance meeting with a professor motivates him to resume his education, leading him to compete in high jump at the Stockholm Olympics and win a gold medal.
It's at the very least a good story. So in that sense it as at least watchable. But unfortunately the story is paired with poor filmmaking. The directing, acting, dialogue, character development, etc., none of it is particularly good. I can forgive a bit because I know they don't quite have the resources that a Hollywood production would have, but I still feel like even with limited resources you should be able to write a good script regardless. Despite a good story, it's undercut by bad dialogue, bland characterizations, and probably a bit too much montage. Overall, I'd give it a 5/10
