A novelist fed up with the establishment profiting from "Black" entertainment uses a pen name to write a book that propels him into the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.
I thought this movie was fantastic. The performances, particularly from Jeffrey wright and Sterling k Brown, were excellent. I loved exploring the idea of how people tend to just latch on to stereotypes as part of some need to feel like you're helping, but really you're not. It's just reductive. People are individuals, not the labels people attribute to them. The movie was also just incredibly funny. There are small moments where the movie sort of feels like it's becoming the thing it seems to criticize, but it's still a great conversation starter and for the most part isn't an issue. 9/10
