Jamie Lewis

James Lewis started professional work in film and motion pictures in his mid teens. He was one of the youngest people to attain qualification to become a member of the Newfoundland Independent Film Makers Co-operative (Nifco). During this time he was making films and crewing early productions in Newfoundland. His first working gig in his teens was as both production manager and 1st assistant camera during second unit shooting of the movie 'The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood', Newfoundland's first full length feature film. In the years to follow, Jamie crewed and worked on all manner of features, television series, dramas, documentaries, shorts and television commercials as a 1st and 2nd Assistant Camera. Because of this, he was among the first to become a certified member of IATSE Local 667, central and eastern Canada's local of the International Cinematographers Guild. And years later, the first Newfoundlander to become a CSC associate member (the Canadian Society of Cinematographers). After a time with the CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, as a news and current affairs Cameraman, he rejoined the ranks of the freelance world as a cameraman and DP. He continues to crew films, and most of the past few decades have been occupied as a cameraman and DP on various documentaries, award winning shorts, television shows and television commercials. His new company, James Lewis Pictures, has been established to provide his shooting talents, as well as supply the best quality motion picture camera support equipment for rental in Newfoundland and Labrador.
